Product Review:
I have been searching for a better mic than the built in one for the iPhone 4 or 4S all year long. There are a few pretenders that do nothing. Then there is the iRig, a standard mic that you hold in your hand and plugs into the headphone port. It comes with a dedicated App. This mic is worthless. I finally discoverd the iM2 and am raving about it. It produces WAVW files which are quite large and that's good because it means there's a lot of digital information in each recording. Downloading them to your computer while syncing your iPhone is a snap and you can then put them in iTunes where you can covert them into an MP3 or AAC to reduce their size by 90% without much loss of quality. I don't know how to compare the quality of the recording but suffice it to say that it's very good. I'd guess it about 70% of the quality of a professional engineered MP3. It also comes with it's own dedicated App which makes recording, equalizing, limiting, etc. a breeze, plus there's telephone support for the price of the call. This is the only good mic available for the iPhone. Don't waste your time or money anywhere else. If you need a good stereo mic to record rehearsals or even performances this is it. The only problem I have found is that since the mic plugs into your sync port, you can't power or charge the phone while using the Mic. It doesn't use much power but I could see a situation where power runs out if you're recording a long concert. So far it seems like it uses 40% of a 100% charge during 90 minutes of recording.
